If Rose McIver is a zombie…we’re seriously considering making the transition. The beautiful McIver stars on the new CW series – iZOMBIE – which premieres tonight and proves yet again, zombies just may be back. Sure, she feeds on the brains of others, but more importantly, what is she applying and eating to make her skin look like that? Blonde locks, fair skin…not all zombies can count themselves so lucky. We sat down at Manhattan’s Casa Lever, and got McIver’s take on how she practices beauty from the inside out…
From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?
I tend to kick off the day with a homemade smoothie. Spinach, banana, yogurt, almonds and blueberries. For lunch, I can’t go past a sandwich. Something with avocado and tomato hits the spot. Often at dinner I end up joining friends, so I eat out often. Thai, pasta or a big hearty salad never go astray. I always keep a couple of Kind Bars on me for snacks and chopped up oranges or apple make for perfect afternoon nibbles.
How do you practice beauty from the inside out?
I drink a lot of water. Keeping hydrated, exercising, sleeping well and spending time with friends and family always makes me the most relaxed and happy version of myself. And I think that shows through in your skin and the way you carry yourself.
What are your morning and nightly beauty regimens?
In the morning, a hot face cloth and a light moisturizer with SPF. I throw on mascara, eyeliner and maybe concealer, but I like to keep it pretty simple when I’m not working. In the evening I use a cleanser and hot water. Then I rinse with cold water and put on a night cream and eye cream. A couple of times a week I try and exfoliate, but that’s not something I like to overdo.
A beauty mainstay that hasn’t changed since your teen years…
YSL touché éclat. Perfect for under eyes when I have super early start times for work.
Five beauty products you can’t live without…
A BB cream, liquid eyeliner, single false lashes, dry shampoo and a light hairspray.
Three beauty products we always will find in your purse..
Perfume, papaw lip ointment and a lip stain.
Best and worst foods/drinks for your skin and hair…
Best – Vegetables! Especially avocado and beets. Avocado for the oils and beets as a detoxifier.
Worst – French fries and candy.
Words to yourself upon looking in the mirror…
Be kind. Everyone is trying their best.
Where do you go to pamper yourself?
The Korean spa. Body scrubs and nice hydrating massages. Yes, please!
What is ‘the new potato’ in beauty?
Seeing people’s real skin tone. Less foundation! More freckles!
