Today, “Inside of You Podcast” released a new episode of their podcast who features Rose.
Rose McIver (Ghosts, iZombie) joins us to share the balance between deep gratitude for her career and light hearted levity she needs to bring to the performances in her various diverse roles. Rose talks about her time filming iZombie and Ghosts, noting the unique character building and difficulties that come with shooting both types of series. We also talk about her strength in coping with uncertainty, finding upside in the cards you’re dealt, and feeling pride in being ‘worth the flight.’
You can also listen on: Spotify, Apple, and wherever you listen to podcasts.
Here are the highlights and some information from this podcast. I recommend you listen to it in full, it’s definitely worth it.
Highlights
- Her mom told her recently that her first word was “no.” “No was actually my first word my mom told me recently. My brother was more and mine was no and that just tracks so perfectly.” (laughing) “I’m somewhat stubborn I would say.”
- “You asked what kind of family I’m from – I’m so lucky, I’m really really lucky. My parents are incredible, my brother’s incredible. You know, we’re a family we’ve all got stuff and we weathered things over the years, but I’ve always felt incredibly supported by them.”
- Becoming a mom, with the postpartum experience and everything, her brain—she knows and has heard—does soften. “There’s, an actual reduced brain capacity when you’ve just recently given birth, um, because, I guess, all your focus goes to the newborn, which it should.” However, she notices her accent is worse, which is a little fun fact for audiences. “If you are listening to me in Ghosts Season 4, I’m just, having to work a lot harder to stay 100% on it. My brain just feels slightly softer. The sounds are not just normally flying out, my, you know, flying out my mouth like they normally do.”
- “My family is everything to me: my husband and my baby and my dog and my own, you know, the family that I grew up with. I feel so lucky that everybody’s safe and good. This is the stuff that I care about the most of my life. We’re very lucky to not, have to work a job that I hate, and same with my husband. We both work in Creative Industries, and get to do things we love – It’s like, that’s so wonderful to have a family we love and be able to work creatively. What an insane privilege.”
- She worked in retail, in the equivalent of Forever 21, “Glassons”, in New Zealand. Just after coming back from filming “The Lovely Bones” in Philadelphia, she wanted to go to University so she got her part-time job.
- After being asked if she would do an “iZombie” reboot, she said that she would LOVE to do it. “I don’t know if people understand quite how much I had the time of my life.”
- Who inspires her to become a better person ? Her daughter.
- One of her biggest fears ? People not liking her.
- She’s a hobbyist. She can find plenty to fill her time.
- What’s next? After Ghosts? She would love to do something in New Zealand. “I’m really craving going home. New Zealand or Australia.” Spending some time on that side of the world, being around their families. She’s looking creatively for something that could pull her in that direction.
- She has a dog that she loves SO much. She has been one of her greatest teachers because she wants her to be liked by everybody and she’s not. She’s not a people pleaser. She does not give a shit on what people think. She’s so protective of her and her husband and her baby. She loves them. When somebody is in the pack she’s very very good to them. She loves other dogs but she doesn’t trust people.
